Sue is a native of Colorado and grew up in the mountains. She learned to crochet at an early age. As a growing child, she spent many years making blankets for her family. She loved nature and all the amazing things that surrounded her every day. The smell of fresh air and all the little animals that were always curiously roaming around in the woods. As an adult she learned how to do many things with her hands. She knitted, quilted, and learned to weave. Dabbling in watercolor and drawing were a great past time to fill the quiet moments.
Her career took her to California and the education of high school students. There, she maintained a craft class in the after-school program. She also had a clothing design club and worked closely with FIDM in Los Angeles. Always in search for new and different ideas, she continued to learn anything that could be made by hand. Participating in the Continuing Adult program through her school district, she learned how to spin on a spinning wheel. This gave her the ability to clean, dye, and make her own natural yarns. She participated in the local arts and craft fairs, and the San Diego Fair where she won many different awards and had the opportunity to spin, knit, and weave in public. This increases the public knowledge of the fiber arts and the beauty of hand made products.
Returning to her home after retirement, Sue brought with her the love of nature, natural things, and the beauty that surrounds us in the Rocky Mountains. Her love of natural fibers and the ever-changing colors that surround her, she continues to create hand made items.
She just finished her first children’s book which she illustrated herself. It will be available locally and reach out to children everywhere who are curious about the world around them.
