Mixed media artist Monte Michener transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Inspired by found objects, discarded materials, weathered wood, metal, paper, and the unexpected, he creates assemblages, sculpture, furniture, and three-dimensional landscapes that are imaginative, whimsical, and deeply expressive. A lifelong admirer of the American West, Monte is especially known for his striking equine and wildlife sculptures. Blending driftwood, reclaimed wood, metal, foam, and other mixed media, he creates tabletop sculptures and life-sized horses that capture the quiet strength and enduring spirit of the West. His driftwood horses possess such remarkable presence and movement that they seem poised to step forward at any moment.
Monte's artistic curiosity extends beyond sculpture into richly layered collage. Using vintage papers, photographs, Japanese washi tape, and hand-selected imagery, he creates intricate mixed media works that celebrate wildlife, portraiture, and the beauty found in layers of memory, texture, and time.
